Chocolate Covered Bacon Hearts

 

THE STICKY PIG is known for its sinful, hand-crafted ORIGINAL bacon chocolates, but we would also like to share with you our ORIGINAL bacon desserts that we have created just for you! Here’s one you can easily make at home and share (or not) with your fellow bacon lovers!

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we thought it would be fitting that our very first bacon recipe video be our CHOCOLATE BACON HEARTS! They are super simple to make and require only 3 ingredients: bacon, chocolate, and sprinkles! Besides the food, you will need a sheet pan lined with tin foil, toothpicks, wax paper, a fork for dipping the chocolate, and a cooking rack (can still be done without this)*.

Once you fold the bacon in half and assemble your hearts, remember to place them in the exact shape you want because that’s how the bacon will cook. I like to bake them at 350F on a cooling rack so they cook evenly and are not sitting in their grease.* Cook them until crispy, about 45 minutes, remove from oven, and wait about 5-7 minutes before you remove the toothpicks. It is important to NOT allow the bacon to cool all the way before you remove the toothpicks because the bacon will harden. It will be difficult to take them out at that point and you might risk breaking them. My suggestion is as soon as you are able to handle them, remove the toothpicks.

While the bacon is cooking, I heat the chocolate. You can be fancy like me and heat your chocolate over a double boiler on the stove, OR you can put it in a glass bowl and microwave it until it is melted. For this recipe I used both white and dark chocolates, but feel free to use whatever chocolate(s) floats your boat.

Dark Chocolate

Prep your decorating station with a sheet pan lined with wax paper and whatever sprinkles/decorations you wish to use. Once your bacon is fully cooled, let the fun begin! Dip each piece in chocolate and shake off the excess, sprinkle those sprinkles, and immediately put them in your fridge to set for an hour. I’d say eat them within 5 days, if they last that long!

These chocolate bacon hearts make a great Valentine’s Day gift, but you don’t have to wait to make these bad boys! You can whip them up whenever your chocolate-bacon-loving heart desires!
